Online Pressures and Unhappy Children
by Amy Williams, edutopia.org, 8 June 2016

What do you think makes children unhappy? For many parents or educators, visions of playground squabbles or being served the wrong dessert are the first images that come to mind. However, researchers are finding a surprising new culprit for what causes children severe unhappiness: online pressures.

Unfortunately, these feelings can't be fixed with a simple menu alteration or a heart-to-heart about being nice. Pressures from social media can cause feelings of unhappiness to run deep in vulnerable adolescents. This ability tocause anxiety or depression in our sons and daughters requires us to examine social media's role in our kids' lives and emotional well-being.

I Gave My Students iPads. They Stopped Talking to Each Other

I gave my students iPads. They stopped talking to each other.
by Launa Hall, pressdemocrat.com,
13 December 2015

I placed an iPad into the outstretched hands of each of my third-grade students, and a reverent, tech-induced hush descended on our classroom. We were circled together on our gathering rug, just finished with a conversation about “digital citizenship” and “online safety” and “our school district bought us these iPads to help us learn, so we are using them for learning purposes.” They’d nodded vigorously, thrilled by the thought of their very own iPads to take home every night and bring to school every day. Some of them had never touched a tablet before, and I watched them cradle the sleek devices in their arms. They flashed their gap-toothed grins — not at each other but at their shining screens.

That was the first of many moments when I wished I could send the iPads back.

Ground Current Videos

Ground Current Videos
magdahavas.com, 27 July 2016

I am going to post a series of educational videos that I am producing on the ground current pollution problem we are experiencing not only in Ontario but in other provinces and in other countries, like the U.S. Most people are unaware of this form of electromagnetic pollution. However, it is getting worse and needs to be dealt with. Ground current is a problem not only in some rural areas but in urban areas as well. We have considerable information about how it affects livestock, especially dairy cows. It also affects people and non-agriculture animals.

Attempts to bring in a private member’s bill in Ontario to resolve the ground current pollution problem has failed twice now, first in 2006 and again this year. I have no hope that this government is going to do anything useful about the ground current problem. Nor do I think a change in government will make any difference. Our electrical utility, that is responsible for much of this problem, is being sold to the private sector and I certainly don’t think they will spend the money to get the current out of the ground.

In unprecedented case, Filipino governmental body accuses carbon-polluting corporations of violating people's rights to "life, food, water, sanitation, adequate housing, and to self determination"
The world's 47 largest producers of greenhouse gases must respond within 45 days to an unprecedented legal complaint filed Wednesday by the Philippines, which alleges the fossil fuel behemoths have deprived millions of residents of the island nation of their human rights through catastrophic global warming.

The Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHR), a governmental body, sent the multinational "carbon majors" a 60-page letter (pdf) accusing them of "breaching people"s fundamental rights to 'life, food, water, sanitation, adequate housing, and to self determination,'" the Guardian reports.

Oceans’ Changing Electromagnetic Environment a Killing Field for Mammals

[Our comment:  The electromagnetic environment is also a killing field for us, for we too are mammals.]

"In light of the roll out of 5G cellular technology and proposed wifi on board satellites, mankind will face serious consequences for our ignorance in utilizing unnatural vibrations. Nature took millions of years to establish what mankind has thrown into chaos in less than 100."

Oceans’ Changing Electromagnetic Environment a Killing Field for Mammals
by Christopher Fontenot, Guest, Waking Times, 22 July 2016

Our oceans are fast becoming a killing field for many marine mammals and other sea dwellers.Beachings are occurring with more frequency than ever. Mass fish kills are a common occurrence. Scientists are calling this the “Sixth Great Extinction Event”. Yet, few are correlating these changes to increases in energy and perturbations in the electromagnetic spectrum. Modern technology is having a profound impact on marine life, the likes of which hasn’t been witnessed by modern man.

In order to understand why our oceans are highly susceptible to electromagnetic radiation (EMR), it’s important to know the characteristics of EMR in water.

“Electromagnetic propagation through water is very different from propagation through air because of water’s high permittivity and electrical conductivity. Plane wave attenuation is high compared to air, and increases rapidly with frequency. With a relative permittivity of 80, water has among the highest permittivity of any material and this has a significant impact on the angle of refraction at the air/water interface.”

3 Reasons Why An Invisible Illness Is More Dangerous

Stockphoto.com - The Dangers of Not Being Seen
"We have to be humble and consider that what we can not see can still exist and still be true. No one in their right mind choses this, and by questioning their illness you are questioning their sanity. When truthfully, and as time will tell, ignorance is the insanity."

3 Reasons Why An Invisible Illness Is More Dangerous
by Cassandra Marcella Metzger JD, MA, RYT, founder of Wellspring Stones - the online oasis for illness, The Huffington Post, 27 July 2016

Invisibility presents extraordinary obstacles and risks depending on who is blind to your illness.
When you get an invisible illness like fibromyalgia, or lupus, or MS, or chronic fatigue, your whole world alters. How you see yourself changes. But how the world sees you does not. Your illness is invisible to others, to doctors and to the government. The perils of not being seen can be life-threatening.

Nearly half of U.S. citizens live with some sort of chronic condition. Most do not use a cane or crutch or wheelchair, which would reveal their disability. Ninety-six percent of chronic conditions are invisible.

That invisibility presents extraordinary obstacles and risks, depending on who is blind to your illness.

Conducting Experiments on Blood Cancer Patients with Wearable Devices which May Possibly Cause Cancer?!

- The pulsed microwave radiation from wireless devices is officially classified as a possible carcinogen, on the basis of an increased likelihood of developing a brain tumour.
- The $25m National Toxicology Program study in the US which is looking at whether cellphone radiation leads to cancer appears to show that it does.
- Insurers refuse to cover the health risks associated with this radiation.
- 221 international experts on the biological effects of this radiation have written to the UN, all UN member states, and the World Health Organisation, warning of the "emerging public health crisis related to cell phones, wireless devices, wireless utility meters and wireless infrastructure in neighborhoods".

And yet microwave-emitting wearables are being used to track cancer victims?

IARC's Report on Glyphosate

In relation to the previous post, read here how Monsanto lies about the safety of its product, glyphosate.

IARC's Report on Glyphosate

Glyphosate has a long history of safe use. In evaluations spanning four decades, the overwhelming conclusion of experts worldwide has been that glyphosate, when used according to label directions, does not present an unreasonable risk of adverse effects to humans, wildlife or the environment.

In March 2015, IARC convened a meeting to evaluate the potential carcinogenic risks to humans from several pesticides, including glyphosate, an active ingredient in many popular herbicides, including Roundup brand herbicides. After that meeting the IARC panel classified glyphosate in Category 2A, a category that also includes red meat.

Based on the overwhelming weight of evidence, Monsanto strongly disagrees with IARC’s classification of glyphosate.

United States: Pesticide Use on Golf Courses, Lawns, Farmlands, School Yards...

"Weeds laughing at your herbicide?".  A billboard in
Denison, Iowa on June 21, promotes herbicide use,  Acuron

The Environmental Health News letter of 27 July 2016 included three stories from local newspapers about the ubiquitous use of pesticides on farmlands, golf courses, private lawns, school yards in New York State and Iowa and the health effects these are causing to people. In Europe, there is a move to ban glyphosate, the toxic substance classified in 2015 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as "probably carcinogenic" (2A), one level below "carcinogenic".  Back in the U.S., it is alarming to see so much cancer among people exposed to these pesticides.  On Long Island, where our family lived for many years, golf courses and lawns have been and continue to be - drenched in pesticides, seeping into the water supply and permeating the air with a strong chemical stench. Will this genocide ever stop?!  According to one of the articles, "trade groups for pesticides spent $46.5 million on lobbying to shape food safety, environmental laws" and "golf-related groups spent $1.5 million on lobbying tied to environment and pesticides."  (Ref: "Golf courses and chemical companies target environmental laws").  Following are extracts from the other two articles.

Growing health concerns surrounding pesticides, including two commonly used in Iowa
by Lauren Mills/IowaWatch.org, investigatemidwest.org, 22 July 2016

Some farmers applying pesticides to fields this summer might ignore symptoms of being exposed to the chemicals, like headaches or nausea. But mounting evidence shows chronic exposure to pesticides may increase risks for certain cancers, like prostate cancer, and for other chronic illnesses, like Parkinson’s and thyroid disease.

NYC's WiFi Kiosks Aren't Accessible to the Blind, New Lawsuit Claims
by Sarah Kaufman (Patch Staff), 29 July 2016

Disability rights advocates are filing suit on behalf of blind New York residents who say the kiosks are not accessible to them.

A disability rights group filed a complaint Thursday against the city for creating WiFi kiosks across the city that are inaccessible to the blind. The LinkNYC program is gradually installing 7,500 kiosks across the five boroughs in place of old pay phones, but the nonprofit Disability Rights Advocates says blind people are unable to use them.

The complaint was filed on behalf of several blind New Yorkers who can't use the kiosks and the National Federation of the Blind against the city's information and technology department, its commissioner Anne Roest, and CityBridge LLC, the consortium of three companies that makes the kiosks.

LETTER: No room for bias in power line reporting
by Mark Bartley, Letter, app.com, 29 July 2016

Regarding the July 22 story “Is The JCP&L transmission line dangerous?” I had always been under the impression that the purpose of a good newspaper was to report events as they happened without any bias from either the writer or management unless it is part of the opinion page.

With that in mind, I was confused after reading the coverage of David Carpenter’s recent presentation on the physical effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) to a group of Monmouth County residents at Raritan High School.

Switzerland: Awareness of Health Risks of Wireless Technology?

Switzerland:  Awareness of Health Risks of Wireless Technology?
by Meris Michaels, 29 July 2016

Awareness of the health risks of wireless technology in French-speaking Switzerland ("Suisse Romande") is at best poor, worse - almost non-existent.  There are only a few doctors diagnosing and treating electrosensitivity, although physicians practicing holistic or integrative medicine may be doing so.  Such doctors are rare and cannot take on new patients. There seems to be an unhealthy collusion among doctors to ignore this issue, either out of ignorance, because wireless is everywhere in their offices and in hospitals and clinics, medical education does not include emerging environmental illnesses in its curriculum, and/or they are scared to go against the powerful telecoms industry which is a vital part of the Swiss economy.

We doubt that "Suisse Romande" has ever heard of the environmental medicine counselling structure for electrohypersensitive persons established by the Society of Doctors for the Environment.  One health insurance company promotes mobile phone subscriptions for families, including young children.  Confronted by an advocacy group for safer wireless, they replied by asking for the names of the group's committee members and saying, the group's description of risks was "alarmist".  A major department store sells babyphones for very young children.  The group drew attention to health risks and to the harmful exposure of factory workers in China producing these and received a defensive reply.  Others, who have written to the health and disability insurance authorities, have received unsatisfactory replies.  And yet, the health warnings are there on the sites of the federal government, the Cancer League, and in manuals for mobile phones, virtual reality headsets, smart watches, etc.

Cell radiation
by Olga Sheean, Opinion, pqbnews.com,
28 July 2016

I used to love my cell phone, until it almost killed me.

I learned the hard way that cell phones/towers transmit harmful microwave radiation, which affects everyone, whether you feel it or not (Canadian doctor Magda Havas shows how it harms your blood, within minutes of exposure: http://bit.ly/2a8Z5qe).

For years, I had many disturbing symptoms, which I blamed on other things. But then I got a brain tumour, known to be caused by microwave radiation and I began to do the research.

Covert Inflammation May Trigger Many Forms of Cancer

Covert Inflammation May Trigger Many Forms of Cancer
by Liz Droge-Young, ucsf.edu, 7 July 2016

A previously unidentifiable type of low-grade inflammation may explain why common anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin have shown promise against some types of cancer – even when patients don’t display typical signs of inflammation.

So-called "parainflammation," seen in orange on tissue grown in culture from a mouse intestinal tumor, could interact with gene mutations to trigger certain types of cancer. On the left, normal mouse gut tissue does not express the signature gene; in the middle, tissue harbors parainflammation; on the right, parainflammation nearly disappears from the tumor after treatment with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug similar to aspirin. Image courtesy of Dvir Aran/Butte lab

A team led by researchers in the labs of Atul Butte, MD, PhD, director of the Institute for Computational Health Sciences and a professor of pediatrics at UC San Francisco, and Yinon Ben-Neriah, MD, PhD, a professor of immunology and cancer research at the Lautenberg Center of Immunology of Hebrew University Medical School in Jerusalem, identified the role of a subtle form of inflammation in human and mouse cancer cells. According to the authors, this so-called “parainflammation” may explain how a number of different forms of cancer begin.

Brain Tumours Now the Most Frequent Form of Cancer in U.S. Adolescents

Brain Tumours Now the Most Frequent Form of Cancer in U.S. Adolescents:  Ground-Breaking American Study
c4st.org, 2016

Are worst fears about mobile phones being realized?

Sobering statistics

Brain tumours are now the leading cancer in American adolescents, and incidence is rising in young adults according to the largest, most comprehensive analysis of these age groups to date.

Canada is undoubtedly similar. “The astounding increases reported in this study, especially in young people, mirror what I am seeing in my clinic,” responded Dr. Jacob Easaw, from the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. “Canada is in the process of establishing a comparable brain tumour registry, so these analyses will not be available here for 15 or 20 years. I am increasingly convinced that mobile phones are a major cause, and urgent action is needed.”

Time for a cancer prevention strategy for young Canadians!

It’s official: “Pokemon Go” monsters have invaded Japan, as evidenced by the legions of fans seen aimlessly wandering around the nation’s streets far and wide — smartphones at the ready — in search of the gaming app’s augmented-reality creatures.

And The Japan Times can confirm that Pokemon monsters have even been spotted inside the Prime Minister’s Office in the nation’s capital.

But there are also no-go zones where “Pokemon Go” characters are not supposed to be found: such as the nation’s nuclear power plants.

Electromagnetically sensitized people may develop symptoms and health problems, when exposed to certain types of electromagnetic fields (EMF), known as electrical hypersensitivity (EHS). Over time, the effects may become stronger if such exposure continues. The Dutch EHS Foundation is committed to finding ways to understand these phenomena and to doing something about it. This study reports the results of a research questionnaire distributed among EHS people before and after that they had taken measures to reduce their exposure to EMF. Information requested included (1) the types of symptoms that people reported, and (2) the  effects of EMF reduction strategies on the disappearance of EHS symptoms and improvement of well-being.

Very important information for your health and for your life.

Paraphrasing Tom Wheeler, Chairman of the FCC: “We can’t let life get in the way of profit. We want to make billions from all of you, and control everything. And in doing so, we’re not only going to willfully ignore science, we’re going to remove the idea of standards and initiate a free-for-all.”

The FCC's Press Intimidation and Suppression of Science and "5G" Rollout

In a public meeting at FCC headquarters on July 14, the agency which once served the people, instead acted like tyrannical thugs in an escalating series of remarkable events.

First, they prevented wireless science advocates from displaying a simple sign, violating their First Amendment rights in a public venue. Then, a security guard forcefully prevented a t-shirt from being taken out of a bag, by a former Congressional candidate with opposing views.

Next, a Bloomberg reporter had his credentials confiscated — almost unbelievably — for merely talking with the former Congressional candidate.

Following these incidents, the reporter, Todd Shields, was visibly irate with FCC Commissioner Tom Wheeler — who also happens to be the former president of CTIA, the wireless industry’s lobbying organization.

“Moments ago I was attempting to talk to to some people who came to attend the meeting and have concerns about radiation and 5G. And your security force intervened — told the guy he couldn’t show me the t-shirt he wished to display at the meeting, forced him to put it away, and confiscated my FCC-issued ID. Is this consonant with the discussion that ought to be taking place here, and what’s your reaction to this action by your staff?”

Your Inhaler's Watching You: Drugmakers Race For Smart Devices

Your Inhaler's Watching You: Drugmakers Race For Smart Devices
by Reuters, 20 July 2016

LONDON (Reuters) - Makers of inhalers to treat asthma and chronic lung disease are racing to develop a new generation of smart devices with sensors to monitor if patients are using their puffers properly.

Linked wirelessly to the cloud, the gadgets are part of a medical "Internet of Things" that promises improved adherence, or correct use of the medication, and better health outcomes. They may also hold the key to company profits in an era of increasingly tough competition.

Drugmakers believe giving patients and doctors the ability to check inhaler use in this way could be a big help in proving the value of their medicines to governments and insurers, though they need to tread carefully on data privacy.

GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca and Novartis are all chasing the opportunity via deals with device firms including U.S.-based Propeller Health and Australian-listed Adherium, as well as technology players like Qualcomm.

The internet is often called the “World Wide Web,” but it’s not actually accessible to residents of a large portion of the world. Today, four billion people are offline, and 1.6 billion of them live in sparsely populated areas around the world.

In recent years, a race to solve that problem has emerged among big tech companies like Google, SpaceX and Facebook. Now, Facebook has published research on an unconventional solution: using light to wirelessly transmit internet signals. The work comes from a Facebook-led initiative called Internet.org, which, according to the initiative's website, has so far brought internet access to more than 25 million people.

Forced exposure to EMF radiation at work

Is your health put at risk for your employer’s profitability through radiation producing technology at work?

You see it more and more. Employees pretty much forced to be exposed to unnecessary EMF radiation by their employers because technological innovations make for a more productive and profitable business. Given that science is much divided about the risks of EMF radiation exposure (and the radiation exposure employees are subjected to may very well be under the governmental exposure limits) how do you bring up your desire not be exposed to unnecessary EMF radiation without being labeled a ‘difficult’ employee and perhaps having your career possibilities, or even employment term, immediately reduced?

Emails reveal role of Monsanto in Séralini study retraction
gmwatch.org, 20 July 2016

Editor at the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology invited Monsanto scientists to review a study that found toxic effects from Monsanto products, reports French newspaper Le Monde

In September 2012 the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology (FCT) published the research of a team led by the French biologist Professor Gilles-Eric Séralini, which found liver and kidney toxicity and hormonal disturbances in rats fed Monsanto’s GM maize NK603 and very small doses of the Roundup herbicide it is grown with, over a long-term period. An additional observation was a trend of increased tumours in most treatment groups.

In November 2013 the study was retracted by the journal’s editor, A. Wallace Hayes, after the appointment of a former Monsanto scientist, Richard E. Goodman, to the editorial board and a non-transparent review process by nameless people that took several months.

Turin could slash Wi-Fi over 'radiation' concernsthelocal.it, 25 July 2016

Turin is planning to cut back on Wi-Fi in state schools and government buildings over concerns that radiation might damage people's health.

The plans were outlined last week as the city's new new Five Star Movement (M5S) mayor, Chiara Appendino, presented her council's five-year political plan.

“We're aware that we need to consider electromagnetic radiation when we speak about pollution,” reads page 23 of the council's programme.

“We would like to take all precautions necessary and ask all public structures to work to reduce the volume of emissions and while guaranteeing connectivity for citizens.”

Portable Wi-Fi boxes gain in popularity at airlines, but are they safe?
by Jason Rabinowitz, runwaygirlnetwork.com, 24 July 2016

Lufthansa on 1 July inaugurated service between Frankfurt and San Jose, the first new nonstop between continental Europe and the California city since 2001. Over the last 15 years, the tech industry has been advancing at lightning speed, and Lufthansa saw fit to introduce the new route alongside its new Lufthansa FlyingLab concept.

The first FlyingLab ground experience centered around virtual reality, with passengers given the opportunity to try out the various tech products, including Samsung Gear VR headsets that were loaded with visuals of Lufthansa’s various longhaul cabins. The real show, however, was on board the Airbus A340-300 (operated by Lufthansa CityLine) once at cruising altitude.

Wireless Technology Exposure Impacting 11-Year-Old Student
by Janis Hoffmann, Letter to the Editor, oliverchronicle.com, 26 July 2016

Tyler is 11 years old and has a recognized disability, EHS (electro hypersensitivity), which means with accumulative and prolonged exposure to microwave radiation from wireless technology, he experiences severe headaches, accompanied with vomiting, extreme fatigue, insomnia and now night terrors. For the past four years he has been shuffling between three different school districts to avoid the mandatory exposure, which school officials have decided is crucial to teach the curriculum.

Could an iPad Hold Your Baby Back? Scientists Study the Effects of Tablets on Children

[Our comment:  This article does not mention the potentially harmful effects of exposing very young children to radiofrequency radiation.  One research group is investigating how use of touchscreen devices by children aged 6 months to 3 years influences their cognitive, brain and social development.  The experiment involves placing a rubbery cap covered in electrodes on the baby's head to measure the electrical activity in his brain.  A smartwatch is placed on each ankle to monitor movement and heart rate, probably without mentioning to the mother that "smart" technology emits harmful radiation.  The experiment is part of the Tablet project in the Babylab at Birkbeck, University of London.]

Why Are Doctors Plagued by Depression and Suicide?

Molly Ferguson for Stat
[Our comment:  We are reading more and more about burn-out affecting doctors. There has always been tremendous pressure in medical school and most doctors have to work very long hours.  But what is new?  Are we less reticent about talking about it?  Could one of the causes be exposure to electro-magnetic radiation from and wide use of wireless technology (fostering less communication, sleep disturbances) - now ubiquitous in universities, doctors' offices, and hospitals? And, as mentioned here, the greater "dehumanization" of medicine?]

Why are doctors plagued by depression and suicide? A crisis comes into focus
by Judith Graham @judith_graham, statnews.com, 21 July 2016

A sense of angst was rattling students at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. One of their peers had taken his life days before.

Professor Mikel Snow felt the dark undercurrent and knew he had to speak up. So, for the first time, he told his students about his decades-long struggle with depression. As word spread, students across the campus started contacting him to discuss the suicide — and to share their own psychological distress.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Sees "Many Causes" of Autism

CDC Sees “Many Causes” of Autism
by Jack O'Dwyer, odwyerpr.com, 20 July 2016

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, responding to this website, says there are many causes of autism and it is “not specifically looking at different sources of radiation” as a possible cause.

CDC, whose budget for 2016 is $11.5 billion, has been headed since 2009 by Dr. Tom Frieden.

The email statement from the CDC News Media Branch is as follows.

“Autism Spectrum Disorders is a complex disorder, and most scientists who study ASD believe that there is no single cause. We have learned that there are likely many causes for multiple types of ASD. There may also be many different factors that make a child more likely to have ASD, including environmental and genetic factors. Understanding more about these factors will help us learn more about the causes.

United States: New Federal Report Says Rehab Hospitals are Dangerous Places

[Our comment:  Several times, my mother was sent to rehab after falling in her assisted living residence.  They are not nice places.  My 91-year-old uncle is now in one, and we worry about him. Back here in Switzerland, where some of these places can be quite posh, we heard of someone, sent to a rehab after knee replacement surgery, falling out of her wheelchair.  Two days later she was sent urgently to hospital where she remained in ICU for weeks.  It might be a serious infection, similar to the personal story related in this article.  She  is now in another not-so-posh "convalescent" facility, suffering from "burning" around the operated knee and internally.  The doctors won't tell us what is wrong (do they really know?) but friends have to wear sterile gowns when visiting her.  She will probably never be able to return home again but will eventually be sent to a nursing home.]

Are Rehab Hospitals Hazardous to Your Health?
by Joe Graedon, People's Pharmacy, 21 July 21 2016

A new study found that rehab hospitals are dangerous places where mistakes are common. Anyone entering such a facility needs vigilance and help from family.

If you suffer a serious injury in an automobile accident, get a knee or hip replaced or suffer a stroke, there is a very good chance you will end up in a rehabilitation hospital. These facilities are supposed to get you back up on your feet and functioning again, especially if you need more assistance than family members can provide.

Regular hospitals like to move people out as quickly as possible after surgery or some other trauma because their reimbursements are tied to the condition being treated. Rehab hospitals are less expensive and bills are usually tied to Medicare reimbursement.

Scientist Outlines Potential Risks Of JCPL Power Lines
by Carly Baldwin (Patch Staff), patch.com, 21 July 2016

"If you live near a high-voltage power line, you're going to be exposed (to radiation). There's nothing you can do unless you move."

Hazlet, NJ - For several months now, residents of Hazlet, Holmdel and Middletown who live near the proposed route of JCP&L's controversial power lines have been concerned about how radiation from the lines will affect their health. It's a concern JCP&L has downplayed, even presenting their own scientists who told residents their EMF fears are exaggerated.

But on Wednesday night, Dr. David Carpenter, an independent expert in electromagnetic field radiation, told residents they are indeed right to be worried.

Job Accommodation for Individuals with Electromagnetic Sensitivity

Accommodation Ideas for Electromagnetic Sensitivity
askjan.org (U.S. Department of Labor website)

There are people who report a sensitivity to electromagnetic sensitivity. Although it has been difficult for the environmental health and medical communities to define, individuals with electromagnetic sensitivity report various symptoms including but not limited to fatigue, weakness, neurological issues, immunological issues, gastrointestinal issues, increased irritability, lack of ability to think clearly and quickly, sleep disturbance, overall malaise, and anxiety.

Despite the medical community's difficulty in defining electromagnetic sensitivity, individuals with the condition may benefit from job accommodations. The following is a quick overview of some of the accommodations that might be useful. To discuss an accommodation situation with a consultant, contact JAN directly.

The Hidden Marginalization of Persons With Environmental Sensitivities
by Pamela Reed Gibson Department of Psychology, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Full text of paper

This paper constructs persons with environmental sensitivities as comprising a hidden, marginalized group in technological culture that is paying a large price for our industrialized lifestyle. Due to the polluted nature of most public venues, this population is robbed of a sense of ‘‘place’’ necessary to maintain personal relationships. This population is marginalized by health-care providers and shunted into mental health categories, as our current health paradigms are not adequate to frame and categorize health problems caused by our toxic industrial lifestyle. The problem is discussed within the context of the pressures of capitalism, and examples are given of persons with environmental illness receiving mental health diagnoses (an attempted colonization) when they attempt to access mainstream health-care providers who lack knowledge or expertise regarding toxic-induced illness.

Open Letter to President Obama: Consider the Full Costs of Wireless Technology (2014)

An Open Letter to President Obama: Consider the Full Costs of Wireless Technology

Before this nation makes Wi-Fi in schools like it is in coffee shops, as the president recently urged, we need to consider what this could do to our children’s brains and bodies. Three years ago the World Health Organization declared cell phone and other wireless radiation a “possible human carcinogen,” — the same category as some pesticides, lead and engine exhausts. Since then evidence has mounted that such radiation can profoundly affect human biology, altering brain metabolism, damaging animals exposed during pregnancy and reducing sperm count. Before blanketing our pre-schools, kindergartens and middle schools with wireless radiation, we need a full life-cycle assessment of economic and health costs and benefits of wireless technology.

"Disastrous" Autism Rate in Children Blamed on Radiation

"Disastrous" Autism Rate in Children Blamed on Radiation
by Jack O'Dwyer, odwyerpr.com, 19 July 2016

The number of children diagnosed with autism has exploded from one in 10,000 several decades ago to one in 68, according to Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.

Among those searching for reasons for the explosion are Rep. Dan Barton (R-Ind.), who calls it “worse than an epidemic, an absolute disaster,” and Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-New York), representing much of the East Side, who blames it on excessive vaccinations of children.

Autism is defined by CDC as a range of functional disabilities including lack of social skills, intellectual disability and language impairment. Victims may engage in repetitive movements or unusual behaviors such as flapping their arms or rocking from side to side.

People With High Levels of ‘Bad Cholesterol’ Actually Live Longer Than Those With Low Levels

Cholesterol drugs - statins - are a billion dollar industry.  They are taken by one in four Americans over age of 45, and if patients stopped buying cholesterol drugs, Big Pharma would be in a serious financial crisis. "New findings, which came after analyzing past studies involving more than 68,000 participants over 60 years of age, once again call into question the “cholesterol hypothesis,” which previously suggested people with high cholesterol are more at risk of dying and would need statin drugs to lower their cholesterol.  Appearing online last month in the open access version of the British Medical Journal, the research team’s analysis represents the first review of a large group of prior studies on this issue."

Mainstream medicine promotes what they want to sell, from a fear perspective. The don’t sell health. They can’t, because they sell little fear pills that have consumers in the billions gobble up, out of fear, fictitious diseases.

Why Does Prevention Always Come Behind Treatment of Disease?

[Our comment: We don't agree with the statement regarding digital device companies' role in "prevention". Most of them are more concerned about the wellbeing of their profits than of people and moreover, are radiating their customers with a class 2B carcinogen with their health devices and apps: "Google, Apple, Microsoft... Fitbit, Samsung, Qualcom, BT... have all entered the health market, concentrating on wellbeing rather than the treatment of sick people."]

Richard Smith: Why does prevention always come behind treatment of disease?
BMJ, 15 July 2016

Why does prevention always come behind treatment of disease? Derek Yach, the chief health officer of Vitality, put this question to many people, and these are the answers he got from Don Berwick, formerly head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and president of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and a familiar figure around the NHS: prevention, answered Berwick, in contrast to healthcare lacks “a corporate voice”; and the science behind prevention is undeveloped.

Don't let kids spend summer days in a screen-induced haze
by Angela Nelson, mnn.com, 23 June 2016

Those glowing screens are harming their bodies and minds.

With school out for the summer, our kids’ (normally full) schedules are now wide open. How will your children spend their free time? If they’re like most kids, a whole bunch of it will be in front of a screen.

It’s a common battlefront between parents and children, from toddlers to teens alike. Desperate parents may appease a screaming 2-year-old with a video or game on their phone. And one 13-year-old recently told CNN that when her phone gets taken away, “I literally feel like I’m going to die.”

But parents need to limit screen time, even if it means playing the bad guy — our children’s mental and physical health depends on it.

The physical effects of screen time

'It is a non-labeling bill disguised as a labeling bill'

The U.S. House of Representatives easily approved legislationWednesday requiring labels ongenetically modified food over objections from anti-GMO groups that say the rules should be stronger.

The legislation already passed the Senate and the White Housei ndicated to Bloomberg that President Obama would sign the bill into law, noting that scientists have found genetically modified food to be safe. Despite the controversy over the labeling standard, study after study has shown that GMOs pose no risk to human health, though they have other issues.
